Backup
Backup is the process of making a separate copy of data so it can be restored after loss, corruption, or a cyberattack. Backup supports business continuity by keeping critical files, databases, and system configurations available even when primary systems fail.
In IT organizations, Backup is a core control for ransomware recovery, accidental deletion, hardware failures, and disasters such as fires or floods. It often uses a mix of on-premises appliances (such as Dell PowerProtect) and cloud services (such as AWS Backup, Azure Backup, or Google Cloud Backup and DR). Strong Backup practices also include testing restores, monitoring job success, and setting retention rules to ensure data remains available for the required time.
