Site Structure

The Tech Job Terms platform provides a clear, cohesive learning system to help you understand how IT works.

This includes “Guided Tour” sections that introduce the IT structure, as well as a comprehensive “Reference Library” with detailed information on IT terminology, tools, vendors, and job profiles.

Additionally, we publish blog-style posts in the Tech Talk section with interesting insights, background, and context on various IT topics.

Combined, these offer a solid foundation for learning and exploring how IT works for all users.

The first four sections, with IT Overviews, Concepts, Lists, and Collections, provide you with helpful tours across IT. They explain the structure, language, and logic behind the entire IT field and how it is represented on this site.

The Concepts, Lists, and Collections pages use an “all-in-one” format, so you can use your browser’s Control F search function to quickly find and highlight any text across all topics on that page.

IT Overviews

The Intro to IT Functions pages explain the eight primary IT Functions and the associated 27 Function Areas that form the foundation of IT organizations. They help you understand what IT does, how it’s structured, and how its different building blocks work together.

IT Concepts Guide

The IT Concepts Guide presents a visual dashboard of more than 170 key Core Function and Function Area topics, building on the IT Overviews. Navigation is easy with multiple intuitive filters, and each linked topic is available to all users. The IT Terms section in the Library contains the full catalog of IT Terms beyond these essential ones.

Quick Lists Guide

The Quick Lists Guide provides handy “one-pagers” with one-line descriptions for 25 essential terms and 10 common tools for each topic. We provide these lists for both Tech Jobs and all Key Concept topics. Collectively, they give you a convenient, quick-reference index across all key IT topics. We also include links to related items available in the Library. 

Topic Collections

The Topic Collections area includes a main dashboard page that shows all 180+ topic collections in use across the site. This dashboard enables filtering by Topic Collection level, ranging from Essential to Standard and Advanced.

Each Topic Collection links to its individual page covering that family of related topics. These individual pages include the same filter options available on Library pages and elsewhere.

The Library includes the full catalog of IT topics covered on Tech Job Terms and is organized into four subsections with their associated Topic Types:

• IT Terms for Core Functions, Key Concepts and IT Terms
• IT Tools for Biz Tools, Dev Tools and Ops Tools
• IT Vendors for Major providers, Mid-level, and Minor / Niche ones
• Job Profiles for Tech Jobs, IT Management roles, and IT Certifications

Our advanced filters enable all users to easily select topics by core IT Function, Function Area, Topic Type, Tech Level, and more. These capabilities are important for optimal site navigation and for expanding your overall IT knowledge while doing so.

The Library sections provide a full suite of well-organized IT information with extensive and convenient filtering options for all users.

The Tech Talk section serves as the blog area of our platform.

It provides insightful articles on IT history, background on tech topics or news, and discussions of emerging trends and other developments impacting the world of IT work. We publish these articles to help readers gain a broader understanding of how IT has evolved and continues to shape our world.

All Tech Talk articles are publicly accessible.
